Studio lighting upgrade at Baku TV: SWIT fixtures on the existing grid with DMX control

As part of the studio modernisation at Baku TV, the old lighting fixtures were removed and replaced with new SWIT studio lights, while the existing ceiling grid and hanging structure were kept unchanged. The aim was to improve the quality and controllability of the lighting system without rebuilding the rig itself.

The new lighting setup consists of SWIT fixtures of different power ratings, mounted on the same grid to create a complete key, fill and accent lighting scheme for presenters, guests and background areas. These updated fixtures provide more stable brightness and colour temperature, resulting in a cleaner, more consistent image on camera.

One of the key innovations of the project was the introduction of a DMX control system.
The lights are connected to DMX controllers and operated via a dedicated DMX console. This allows the lighting operator to adjust intensity, group fixtures and recall preset scenes centrally, without having to touch each fixture individually. Separate lighting scenes can be created for different programme formats — such as news bulletins or interview shows — and the desired setup can be activated with just a few button presses.

The SWIT fixtures are mounted on the existing grid, with power and DMX cabling neatly routed along the structure. These units are controlled via DMX, and different light levels and combinations of fixtures can be assigned for different scenes as needed.

As a result, by reusing the existing grid, Baku TV has effectively built a new studio lighting system:
with SWIT fixtures, DMX controllers and a dedicated DMX console, the lighting has become more flexible, more controllable and better aligned with the demands of on‑air production.
